Protein folding is the process by which a polypeptide chain acquires its functional, native 3D structure. However, protein misfolding prevents the protein from folding into its native functional conformation. Many factors have been reported to be involved in protein folding. Somatic or genetic mutations such as loss of organelle DNA, high temperature, acidic or basic pH, high sugar or oxidative stress, metal ions, aging can lead to misfolding. Misfolded proteins have two main fates. One is that the misfolded protein is degraded (cleared) from the system, resulting in the loss of the function provided by the protein. The second is the aggregation of misfolded proteins, leading to the gain of toxic function, the precipitation of many serious diseases, such as cystic fibrosis (CF), Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD) and amyotrophic side solenoid sclerosis (ALS), etc. Therefore, scientists are working on potential treatments aimed at minimizing protein misfolding.

Services

The purpose of drug design and protein de novo design is to use the rules of protein folding to create proteins with new functions, and significant progress has been made in the development of drugs and medical diagnostics. Creative BioMart is an expert in identifying therapeutic protein misfolding and is working to develop potential treatments that reduce protein misfolding.
