Biomaterials for Adhesives

Biological or tissue adhesives have a variety of potential medical applications, including local wound closure, replacement of sutures or staples in internal surgical procedures, bonding of dental/corneal inlays or inlays, and prevention of postoperative adhesions. With its advanced protein engineering platform established over the years, Creative BioMart is developing a variety of protein-based adhesives biomaterials for medical wound closure, leak sealing and fixation. Our scientists are committed to providing fully customized biomaterials for adhesives solutions to customers around the world.

Introduction of Adhesives Biomaterials

Over the past 30 years, bioadhesives have played an important role in transforming the surgical process. Bioadhesives are less likely to damage tissue than traditional wound closure methods, including sutures, wires, and staples, and can promote wound healing through different mechanisms. Bioadhesives have demonstrated their superiority as tissue adhesives, hemostatic agents, and tissue sealants in clinical applications. Furthermore, due to the inherent stickiness, its applications have expanded into various fields such as functional wound dressings, factor delivery vehicles, and even medical device fixation. Tissue adhesives composed of albumin or gelatin are commonly used protein-based adhesives, which are less toxic and have high mechanical strength and are widely welcomed. Researchers are working to develop bioadhesives with higher biocompatibility, bond strength, flexibility and degradability.

Solutions

Due to differences in the mechanical properties and cellular structure of various tissues of the body, there is a need to develop bioadhesives suitable for a variety of applications. Creative BioMart successfully exploited rationally designed protein engineering strategies to develop multiple protein-based adhesives biomaterials to enhance bleeding control and wound healing to improve clinical outcomes. In order to provide customized high-quality adhesive biomaterials to global customers, we have rationally designed the following proteins to provide solutions for adhesives for medical applications, including but not limited to:

  • Gelatin based adhesive
Gelatin is a hydrolyzed form of collagen. Our protein engineers design gelatin-based adhesives through protein technology that help prevent migration from target tissue sites.
  • Albumin based adhesive
Albumin is an abundant protein found in mammalian blood. Our protein engineers use protein technology to design albumin-based adhesives that combine with glutaraldehyde to form rigid, brittle solids.
  • Fibrin based adhesive
Fibrin binders work by mimicking the biochemical reactions of the final stages of coagulation. Our protein engineers use protein technology to design fibrin-based adhesives that are widely used as hemostatic agents to stop bleeding, and as sealants to achieve closure.

Advantages of Protein-based Adhesives Biomaterials

  • Easy to apply and fast curing to fit irregularly shaped imperfections or areas of tissue.
  • Providing adequate mechanical support for injured tissue as it heals.
  • Strong adhesion to keep tissue blocks close.
  • Causing minimal inflammation or toxicity from surrounding tissue, with no risk of disease transmission.
  • Biodegradation in a time frame corresponding to the gradual formation of new tissue.
  • Promoting tissue growth and repair by promoting cell adhesion and extracellular matrix production.

Creative BioMart has in-depth knowledge and experience of the tools and processes involved in biomaterials development, and provides professional protein-based adhesives materials production solutions for the customers.
